Using AFM we have found a new mechanism for the mechanical behaviour of
squalene / branched alkanes when they are squashed between
two surfaces. We were also able to take a picture of the squalane
monolayer - the first time this has been achieved - formed
between the surfaces to confirm that the layer is either in
an ordered solid or a disordered liquid/ glass state. |
